Indian
Spinal
Injuries
Centre
(ISIC),
New
Delhi
recently
announced
its
recognition
by
the
National
Board
of
Examination
(NBE),
Ministry
of
Health
&
Family
Welfare
for
training
of
doctors
in
rheumatology
for
the
Diplomat
of
National
Board
of
Examination.
This
has
proved
to
be
a
step
ahead
in
the
major
initiative
to
help
future
rheumatologists
in
the
country
to
hone
their
clinical
skills.
This
recognition
makes
ISIC
the
only
institute
in
North
India
having
the
facility
to
start
DNB-Rheumatology.
This
three-year
programme
encompasses
both
clinical
and
academic
aspects
of
rheumatology.
“This
is
definitely
a
good
platform
for
doctors
to
establish
careers
in
rheumatology
and
we
will
start
with
two
students
per
year,”
said
Dr.
Pradeep
Bhardwaj,
Deputy
Medical
Superintendent
and
Head
of
Medical
Education,
ISIC.
Citing
the
reason
of
flagging
off
this
course,
Dr.
AN
Malaviya,
HOD-Rheumatology,
ISIC,
said,
“In
developed
countries,
musculoskeletal
and
arthritic
problems
are
the
commonest
cause
of
long
standing
disability
in
adults.
As
the
population
ages,
such
problems
increase
and
it
is
essential
that
there
are
enough
rheumatologists
to
deal
with
these
issues.”
