Forging its own path, Indraprastha Apollo Hospital has emerged as the leader in healthcare delivery in North India by able deployment of technology and knowledge to the service of the capital city, notes Micky Neelam Kachhap
Ten
years
ago,
Apollo
Group
came
to
Delhi
and
transformed
the
way
healthcare
was
delivered
in
North
India.
It
gave
the
region
its
first
taste
of
sophisticated
care,
wrapped
in
flamboyant
hospitality,
setting
a
trend
that
was
soon
synonymous
with
quality
and
satisfaction.
Indraprastha
Apollo
Hospital
(IAH),
Delhi,
was
established
to
provide
a
complete
range
of
latest
diagnostic,
medical
and
surgical
facilities
to
the
patients;
fulfilling
the
need
for
a
high-end
tertiary
care
hospital
in
the
capital
city.
Third,
in
the
chain
of
super
specialty
tertiary
care
hospitals,
IAH
was
set-up
by
the
Apollo
Hospitals
Group
in
conjugation
with
the
Government
of
New
Delhi,
in
July
1996.
Since
then,
key
performance
indicators
of
the
hospitals
have
scaled
new
heights
and
today
the
hospital
stands
at
the
forefront
of
medical
technology
and
expertise,
becoming
the
fourth
largest
corporate
hospital
in
the
world.
In
its
quest
for
excellence,
the
hospital
became
the
first
internationally
accredited
hospital
in
South
Asia,
to
gain
accreditation
from
the
Joint
Commission
International
(JCI),
USA
and
in
doing
so
IAH
has
raised
standards
for
healthcare
delivery
in
the
country.
IAH
registered
13
per
cent
increase
in
its
total
income
for
the
last
financial
year
and
also
showed
an
upward
surge
in
its
domestic
as
well
as
international
patient
volumes.
The
hospital
is
fully
supportive
of
new
opportunities
like
health
insurance,
telemedicine,
corporate
wellness
programme
and
clinical
trials.
The
hospital
is
fairly
involved
in
community
welfare
programmes
and
is
poised
to
address
the
unmet
demands
for
healthcare
services
in
the
region.
The
organisation
is
aware
of
the
expectations
mounted
on
it
due
to
the
raised
standards
of
quality
in
the
recent
years
and
is
committed
to
provide
the
best
treatment
to
all
its
patients
and
is
determined
to
achieve
the
goal
that
the
hospital
has
set
for
itself.
The
hospital
design
With
distinction,
named
one
of
Delhi’s
best

is
a
spacious
and
well
designed

It
has

Recently,
a

has
also
been
inaugurated
at

The
architecture
of
IAH
is
exceptional
with
huge
atrium
and
domes
giving
the
building
a
palatial
look.
Moreover,
the
interior
of
the
hospital
has
been
designed
to
emanate
comfort
to
the
patients.
This
would
include
the
soothing
wall
colours,
use
of
natural
green
and
huge
windows
for
maximum
utilisation
of
natural
light.
What
is
more,
training
programmes
for
creating
awareness
about
energy
conservation
and
use
of
natural
resources
are
conducted
on
a
regular
basis
at
the
hospital.
There
is
enough
parking
space
in
the
premises
and
navigation
is
not
cumbersome.
Beautiful
gardens
adore
the
building
and
provide
solace
to
the
eyes.
The
hospital
also
provides
for
various
needs
of
the
patients’
caretakers
and
relatives,
like
the
huge
waiting
area,
the
food
court,
books
and
gift
shop,
telephone
facilities,
drinking
water,
clean
toilet
and
a
24-hr
pharmacy.
All
poised
to
increase
the
value
of
care
provided
by
the
hospital.
The
amenities
The
hospital
boasts
some
of
the
best
names
in
the
medical
fraternity,
which
provokes
enough
trust
for
a
patient
to
choose
the
hospital
for
treatment.
It
is
also
proud
of
its
nursing
team
as
well
as
technicians
and
non-technical
staff.
On
the
other
hand,
the
management
of
the
hospital
derives
its
strength
from
the
