With a trail of landmark services, Sterling Hospital is perfectly poised to ride the growing healthcare wave in India

William Shakespeare said 'What's in a name?', but for a hospital it's the name that matters most; and Sterling Hospital, Ahmedabad has earned it well. In a short span of six years, it has created a benchmark for quality healthcare in Gujarat and has been acknowledged as the best hospital of Ahmedabad for the second time in 2007 (The Week).

Nearly a decade ago, when Paras Pharmaceuticals Ltd. thought about foraying into the healthcare delivery market, the idea was to make superior treatment options available to the local people. At that time, patients who could afford treatments like transplants and stenting were frequently opting for hospitals in nearby states. Sterling Hospital was born out of this necessity; conceived by a company called Sterling AddLife India Ltd., which was promoted by Paras Pharmaceuticals Ltd. As time passed by, Sterling expanded its reach by opening up small centres in the interiors of Gujarat and acquiring other small tertiary care centres around Ahmedabad. At present, it has two multi-specialty tertiary care hospitals, one each at Ahmedabad and Vadodara and three satellite centres at Kalol, Mehsana and Himmatnagar. Since its inception in October 2001, this exponentially growing hospital has succeeded in creating a niche for itself among the constellation of good corporate hospitals in India. Today, Sterling boasts the world's fi rst trans-radial lounge for angiography. It is the fi rst hospital in South Asia to achieve insulin pump implantation on a11-year-old boy through Continuous Glucose Monitoring System (CGMS). Sterling is also the first multi- super specialty tertiary care hospital of Gujarat to have a full-flagged and well-equipped infection control department for the prevention and control of Hospital Acquired Infection (HAI).

The hospital is empanelled with leading corporate houses of Gujarat — from prestigious scientific research organisation like ISRO to huge public sector undertaking like ONGC — all rely on Sterling to provide quality care to its staff. Even for the Gujarat born NRIs from US, UK and African countries, Sterling has become the first choice for treatment. This illustrates the trust that the institute inspires. Besides, the hospital reaches out to the less privileged, through various free treatment camps. Living up to its name, Sterling is poised to grow steadily in the next few years.

Services and departments
This multi- super specialty hospital has state-of-the-art infrastructure to provide high quality services across a range of specialties with total bed strength of 275, out of which 75 are monitored beds. It caters to about 10,000 in-patients and 12,000 out patients annually and is able to perform
around 3,000 surgeries per year. The hospital has seven major OT complexes equipped with top class facilities including HEPA filters, MAC Laminar tents from USA and German lighting system.

Cardiology

Gujarat's first complete arrhythmia management facility and arrhythmia clinic is instituted in this department. Further, the department is integrated with Gujarat's fi rst Acute Stroke Unit and Acute Cerebrovascular/Stroke Intervention Programme developed by the joint efforts of an interdisciplinary team of neuro-radiologists, neurologists, neurosurgeons, vascular interventional cardiologists, surgeons and critical care specialists.

The cardiology team at Sterling is a carefully selected team of dedicated professionals, having an experience of performing over 10,000 heart surgeries, over 30,000 cardiac catheterisation and 6,000 interventions. It has the most experienced group of cardiologists and cardiac surgeons in
Gujarat and one of the most experienced groups in angioplasty in India, with over 15 years of experience in angioplasty.

The department also has the latest and best flat panel cathlab having the latest digital acquisitions and
processing of images, one of the best in the region.
